Bikes

• Ride in the same direction as traffic and as far right as practical
  Be visible. Wearing bright clothes and use lights and reflectors at night.
• Signal your intentions to turn or change lanes, and obey all traffic signs and signals.
• Ride no more that 2 abreast and only when not impeding traffic.

Motor Vehicles

• Leave at least 3 feet when passing a bicyclist (it's the law).
  Look for bicyclists before turning at intersections. Do not pass a bicyclist and turn right in front of them.
• Make sure a bicyclist is not approaching from behind before opening your car door.
• Bicyclists have the same rights to the road as motorists, are permitted to ride in the center of the lane when unsafe conditions exist, and to ride 2 abreast when not impeding traffic.

“Share the Road” Sign Placed Where Cyclist Killed

At 11 AM on Saturday April 22nd, Malcolm Campbell, President of the Utah Bicycle Coalition, friends and family of Bill Corliss and officials from the Utah Department of Transportation will place a “Share the Road” Sign near where Cyclist Bill Corliss was killed in a tragic accident on April 3^rd, 2006.

 

The nonprofit Utah Bicycle Coalition, made up of local bike advocates, lead the charge for safe cycling by organizing the annual “Josie Johnson Memorial Ride” and supporting the passage of Utah’s “Three Foot Law”.

 

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has supported safer cycling though a program of posting “Share the Road” Signs along Utah roadways including Big Cottonwood Canyon where Josie Johnson was killed in 2004.

 

These groups will join Bill Corliss’s friends and family along with the many cyclists who rode and competed with Corliss at a site near where 49 yr. old William Corliss of Park City, Utah, was killed.

 

The Utah Bicycle Coalition seeks to:

 

1. Educate motorists of the rights of cyclists to be on the road and the while three feet is the law, to please give cyclists as much room as reasonable and safe!!!

 

2. Educate cyclists that they need to obey all traffic laws.
3. Educate public entities that they are responsible to provide safe roadways.

Directions to the Saratoga Springs Boat Harbor:

 

Coming from I-15, take the Lehi Main Street (U-73) exit and head west. At the Intersection of Redwood Rd (U-68), turn left (south) and drive about 7 miles (it might be more than that -- I'm not exactly sure). You'll pass a golf course on the left.   Keep going south and turn left on Cascade Drive. For now you can ignore the entrance shack as there are no day use or launch fees.  Coming from the west side of the Salt Lake Valley, it would just be faster to take Redwood all the way down and skip I-15 altogether.  DO NOT park on Redwood Road.  The City has requested that we not park there, and there really isn't room on the shoulder to do so anyway.  There is ample parking at the boat harbor, so we'll park there and then just walk back up the hill to Redwood Road.  You may also be able to park on Cascade Drive between Redwood and the marina, although I don't remember for sure if there is parking along this road or not.
