We Work for Your Rights!
A major goal of the UBC is to be the bicyclist’s voice in state government. The UBC continues to work directly with elected officials, State and local agencies to craft and encourage legislation that improves conditions for Utah bicyclists.  Some of our accomplishments:

  • House Bill 49, legislation calling for motorists to give 3 feet of clearance when overtaking a bicyclist on Utah roadways was signed into law by Governor Huntsman in February of 2005.
  • Working with the Utah Highway Patrol to promote safe cycling throughout Utah.
  • We were instrumental in making the new Share the Road License Plates available at the DMV in 2009.  Get yours today at your local DMV! Plate purchases support bike safety, planning, and Bike Route Network efforts in Utah.
  • In 2010 we are working with elected officials and stakeholders on revising the lane positioning requirements.

The UBC works with elected officials and government agencies to encourage implementation of the “Complete Streets” program. This program has been developed at a national level and adopted by many cities and municipalities across the country. The goal of this program is to ensure that selected new and revised road construction in Utah accommodates all roadway users including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.

The UBC will continue to promote Share the Road education to the motoring and cycling public that outlines to motorists, the cyclists rights on roadways and cyclists obligations to obey traffic laws through public service announcements and presentations at bicycle events across the state.
