About Bike Utah
Bike Utah is a non-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization made up of recreational and commuter cyclists, bicycle manufacturers, retail shops, and transit advocates working to improve bicycling conditions throughout the State of Utah.Bike Utah advocates for increased bicycle use by promoting the bicycle as an everyday means of transportation and recreation. Cycling is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, maintain good health, and travel around town.
We Work for Your Rights!
A major goal of Bike Utah is to be the bicyclist’s voice in state government. Bike Utah continues to work directly with elected officials as well as State and local agencies to craft and encourage legislation that improves conditions for Utah bicyclists. Our accomplishments include:
- Passage of House Bill 49, which requires motorists to give 3 feet of clearance when overtaking a bicyclist on Utah roadways, and which was signed into law by Governor Huntsman in February of 2005.
- Working with the Utah Highway Patrol to promote safe cycling throughout Utah.
- Passage of a law that created the new Share the Road license plate, of which a portion of the proceeds go towards bicycle education efforts. Get yours today at your local DMV!
Bike Utah works with elected officials and government agencies to encourage implementation of the “Complete Streets” programs. These programs have been developed at a national level and adopted by many cities and municipalities across the country. The goal of these programs is to ensure that road construction accommodates all roadway users including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
