Board Position Openings

Bike Utah is the statewide, nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization. Our mission is to integrate bicycling into the everyday culture of the state. We have a vision for Utah to be the most bicycle friendly state in the country. Bike Utah works as the bicyclist’s voice at all levels of government. Through advocacy and education, we aim to make Utah a safe place for everyone who chooses to ride. Bike Utah strives to support all aspects of Utah’s cycling industry.

In the last four years, Utah jumped in the League of American Bicyclists Bike Friendly State rankings from 31st to 8th. Attendance at the Utah Bike Summit, which Bike Utah organizes, has been increasing steadily since it began. We are looking to leverage our statewide success by increasing our influence and making Utah the most bicycle friendly state in the country.

Bike Utah is looking to add new members to our Board of Directors. Our ideal candidates are, first and foremost, passionate about bicycles. They must be outgoing, work well with others, and be able to spread their passion for bicycles to everyone with whom they interact. Specifically, we would like to add board members with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Organizational development (fundraising, membership, events, etc.)
  • Communications and marketing
  • Board governance
  • Work in the health field
  • Education

Candidates who are female, from underrepresented populations, and from outside of Salt Lake County are strongly encouraged to apply.

Bike Utah is still a small organization, with an Executive Director and 11 current board members who serve on a working board. Board members serve 2-year terms and can be re-elected up to 3 times for a total maximum of 8 consecutive years. Monthly time commitment is approximately 5 hours per month.

If you are interested in joining Bike Utah’s Board of Directors please send a letter of intent and a resume to Chad Mullins at [email protected] by November 21, 2014. In your letter of intent please address the following areas:

  • Your passion for bicycle use
  • Your interest in participating on the board
  • The time you have available in which to contribute to organizational efforts
  • The experience in one or more of the following areas and how this experience would be most useful to Bike Utah:
o   Organizational development (fundraising, membership, events, etc.)
    o   Communications and marketing
    o   Board governance
o   Work in the health field
    o   Education
